Our History

The Church

The land for the church was deeded to the founding Trustees on September 27, 1877 by local farmer William "Uncle Billy" Brown who lived across the street.

The Church was built c. 1890. It was also the home of Pleasant Hill Academy which operated at the church site in the 1890's. The first teacher was the famed Ida Williams, an educational pioneer and visionary, who later founded the Northside Library Association, now the Buckhead Library. The Association founded the Carnegie Library which was built in 1942 and named it in memory of Miss Williams. The Library continues to operate as a part of the Fulton County Library System.

Historic Tree

The iconic Post Oak tree in front of Paces Ferry Untied Methodist Church has been confirmed the oldest tree in the Atlanta area, dating to 1730 +/- 10 years.

Research shows it on the original survey completed after the 1821 Creek Land Treaty of Indian Springs transferred the property from the Creek Nation to the United States.
